Job Title: Cost Accountant Location: Mundelein, IL (Onsite)
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM (some flexibility required during peak periods)
Compensation: $88,000-$115,000 annually + discretionary bonus based on individual and company performance
Position Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical
Cost Accountant to join a growing finance team in a fully onsite role based in
Mundelein, IL . This position plays a critical part in the financial operations of a manufacturing organization, with a strong focus on cost analysis, inventory management, and variance reporting. You will work directly with the Cost Accounting Manager and cross-functional teams to support ongoing product costing, process improvements, and financial decision-making.
Key Responsibilities: - Analyze and compare estimated versus actual costs for manufacturing operations
- Support product setup and cost modeling for new and existing SKUs
- Maintain and update standard costs of manufactured goods
- Assist in monthly close, inventory valuation, and roll-forwards
- Monitor and analyze labor, material usage, overhead spend, and inventory variances
- Perform inventory cycle counts and participate in quarterly physical inventory
- Ensure accuracy and control in inventory accounting processes in accordance with SOX/internal control standards
- Collaborate with operations, supply chain, and finance leadership to provide insights into cost drivers
- Prepare and deliver detailed cost reports and recommendations to management
- Support construction-in-process tracking, fixed asset accounting, and overhead allocations
- Participate in audits and support compliance with all internal controls and financial policies
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting as needed
- Continuously identify opportunities to streamline and improve cost processes
Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
- Minimum of 2 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of BOMs, routings, product costing, and standard costing methods
- Experience with ERP systems (any platform; Cispro experience is a plus)
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, large dataset analysis, reconciliations)
- Familiarity with SOX compliance or internal control processes related to inventory and costing
- Ability to analyze complex financial data and communicate findings effectively
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving mindset
- Proven job stability and a track record of success in cost accounting roles
