Non-Exempt

Business Unit Name: Custodial Services

Reports To: Custodian III

Starting Pay: $15.00 per hour

Summary

This position performs general custodial duties such as floor care, sweeping, dusting, mopping, glass cleaning, restroom cleaning, and all other building care as assigned. The primary purpose of this position is to maintain an acceptable level of cleanliness for the building. This position will be required to work shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather. This position is considered weather essential personnel.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Strips, waxes, and spray buffs the floors.
  • Sweeps, dust mops, and wet mops the floors.
  • Vacuums carpets.
  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms.
  • Empties and cleans waste receptacles and disposes of trash.
  • Dusts furniture, walls, and fixtures.
  • Cleans glass doors, windows, display cases, desk tops, and telephones.
  • Replaces light bulbs and cleans lighting fixtures.
  • Handles cleaning chemicals responsibly.
  • Responds by telephone to after-hour and emergency call-outs.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent and a minimum of one year of custodial experience.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid Driver's License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. New residents are required to obtain a Texas driver license from the Texas Department of Public Safety within 90 days of moving to the state.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to be reached by telephone for after-hour and emergency call-outs.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions.
  • Ability to write legibly and coherently.
  • Ability to operate or use a maid cart with all types of cleaning supplies, mops, brooms, dust mops, and glass cleaning equipment, buffers, vacuums, carpet cleaning machines, powered sweeper/scrubber, City vehicle and all other equipment necessary to perform assigned duties.
